I’m sure this must have been posted and dealt with in the past, but I was helping someone get vampire heads to work and she said she’d searched and didn’t find the info. So.
If you want to get your new race’s vampire heads to work, remember that simply checking the ‘vampire’ option in the head’s tab isn’t enough. You should do this, of course, and make sure the head isn’t checked as playable, but there’s more to it than that. For the game to perform the ‘switch’ between normal and vampire heads, it needs to find a head with a very specific id. If it doesn’t find this id, it will simply assume there’s no vampire head available and – voila! – headless vampire ingame.
Here’s how to get it right:
Change the id of the heads you want the game to use as vampires to:
b_v_racename_m_head_01
(for the male)
b_v_racename_f_head_01
(for the female)
Obviously, you should replace ‘racename’ with the *ID* of your own race, but note, this is the race ID and not the name of your race (if there’s a difference).
Also, if your race’s id is composed of two words (e.g. ‘dark elf’) then *don’t* use an underscore to separate the two words if you didn’t use an underscore in the race id. (e.g., if your race id is ‘dark elf’, ‘b_v_dark_elf_m_head_01’ would be incorrect – note the underscore between ‘dark’ and ‘elf’)
Finally, if you want to check that the heads on your new race are working properly, the easy way is to open the console and type:
Player->Addspell “vampire sun damage”
If the switch between heads happens, all is well. If not, check the ID’s on your heads.
All the Best, Ratchild
